ANTONIO SÁNCHEZ
Antonio Sánchez is a fundamental piece in understanding flamenco guitar today.
He is the example of how a new voice must be nurtured and slowly developed, so that once artistic maturity is reached, a solid and original solo proposal can be presented.
Antonio went through three essential schools to become who he is today.
First, after training and learning the technical basics of the guitar, he worked accompanying dance, a fundamental school that gave him rhythm, timing, and, above all, a very personal strumming technique. Flamenco dance is, along with Afro-Cuban rumba, the most complex form of rhythmic expression I know.
Secondly, he spent years accompanying flamenco singers, a world where knowledge of singing, harmony, and flamenco styles is essential for great voices like Israel Fernández, Saúl Quirós, Montse Cortés, David De Jacoba, or Antonio Reyes to call on him for their performances.
The third episode of his training is the most complex and striking. Not everyone has the opportunity to accompany Paco de Lucía on his world tours. During this time, Antonio not only learned to improvise and interpret the brilliant second guitar parts the maestro had composed for the album Cositas Buenas, but, under the guidance of the genius from Algeciras, he discovered the secrets of “jondo” (deep flamenco) that only a few guitarists truly understand.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Antonio Sánchez was born in Madrid in 1984.
A highlight of his career is that he started playing the guitar at an early age alongside his uncles Paco de Lucía and Ramón de Algeciras, and his cousin José María Bandera. From there, he continued his studies with Juan Manuel Cañizares.
He began to work in Madrid in the most important tablaos, as well as in the ballet of Antonio Márquez. He also worked in the tablao of Tokyo (Japan) for 1 year.
Later, he spent eight months at the Tablao Cordobés, in Barcelona, where he was able to meet and work with some of the best top- level flamenco artists, whether in dance, singing or guitar.
He was the second guitarist in Paco de Lucía’s septet, with which she toured the world for four years until the maestro’s death in February 2014.
Antonio has collaborated with leading flamenco guitarists, singers and dancers on stages all over the world.
Starting in October 2024, Antonio Sánchez began the ‘Kavara’ tour. The artist’s debut album, Kavara, is a reflection of his unique style within contemporary flamenco, fusing different genres and demonstrating his artistic maturity.
ANTONIO SÁNCHEZ / Debut Album “KAVARA”
“KAVARA”
After more than two decades dedicated body and soul to the flamenco guitar, Antonio Sánchez arrives now with his first album ‘Kavara’, a rounded album full of friendship and family, with a pure and personal sound, compositions that reflect the experiences of the man who, as a child, used to go to Casa Limón to listen to his uncle recording, and who today we can say is the best heir of the ‘Paco’ legacy and a true flamenco guitar virtuoso.
From October 2024, Antonio Sánchez started the ‘Kavara’ tour to delight live audiences alongside his musicians and with some of his great friends and global flamenco references such as the harmonica player Antonio Serrano, the dancer Farru, the bass player Carles Benavent or the polyhedric Alain Pérez.
